I’ve been pottering around and stroking my fabrics, browsing through books and magazines and pondering my next project. To say I’m spoilt for choice would be a rather gross understatement. I’m slightly taken aback by just how much fabric there is….and all the books…how did I get into this state?<\/p>\n

This is a very (very) small sample of what I’ve been toying with.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

It has reinforced my reserve to work with what I have and not invest in anything new. I have some wonderful fabrics – enough for several lifetimes I should say. I love taking them out and looking at them, imagining the paths I could take with them. It would be a crying shame not to use them.<\/p>\n

I know it will take me a while for the ideas to crystallize and for me to come to some sort of a decision. But I have come up with a few ground rules, just to give me a gentle shove in the right direction:<\/p>\n

1. No double bed sized quilts. I’m running out of beds and while I’m happy to send quilts out to be quilted, right now I think it might be sensible to make something a little smaller.<\/p>\n

2. No stars or flying geese. Purely to bring some variety into my life. I have a very strong tendency to always gravitate in that direction.<\/p>\n

3. \u00a0Something cheerful and spring-like. I’m leaning towards the fresh yellows, blues and greens of a Nature’s Notebook<\/em> jelly roll that I bought last year (by April Cornell for Moda). Although the weather is currently a whole lot milder than it has been and the snow has melted, spring is still a long way off and I think something a little uplifting would not be a bad thing. (Particularly because I can’t get out and run in the woods at the moment to lift my spirits!).<\/p>\n

4. The project has to be finished before I embark upon any other sewing projects. Having been so successful with my UFOs in the last couple of weeks, I really want to behave like a sensible disciplined person for once and not wade into that mire again. This may of course be asking too much of my limited self control and butterfly tendencies. But we can \u00a0hope and I will at least feel guilty having written this down for all to read.<\/p>\n

5. I’d like this to be a project where I learn something new – it doesn’t really matter what – just something to broaden my horizons a tad. That wouldn’t do the little grey cells any harm at all.<\/p>\n

So…a not very productive, but very enjoyable afternoon…<\/p>\n
