(Not to mention a mountain of ironing finally dispatched – but ironing isn’t very exciting, so we won’t go into that…). I even dragged out my spinning wheel as I’m feeling totally inspired by all you spinning knitting bloggers out there.

I also received a lovely little package in the mail from Oceanwind Knits…

This wool really is good enough to eat. I’m not sure my photo really does the colours justice. It is 100% merino and I know it is going to knit up like a dream. The coral skein is particularly delectable. Mmmmm.

I love sock wool. There are such utterly dreamy wools out there and socks are really very quick to knit. Once you get over the initial shock of turning a heel and decreasing for the toe and learning how to do the Kitchener stitch to finish the toe off seamlessly they are technically very do-able for all but beginner knitters. You know you will only need a skein or two, you can go bold on colour in a way that is tricky with bigger garments and let’s face it, a skein of yarn isn’t going to break the bank. There lies the nub of the problem…sock wool is far, far more tempting than other wool. Before you turn around you end up with…

… and this little mountain is only my 2010 purchases. (And don’t tell anybody, but there is even more on the way!)

I think I’m going to have to follow Stephanie at Yarn Harlot and her self-imposed sock club and try to knit a pair every month. She keeps them to give as presents at Christmas – which does strike me as a very good idea. Who wouldn’t be thrilled with a pair of gorgeous hand knitted socks? (Well, to tell the truth, my husband wouldn’t thank me for a pair, but he’s strange like that – and I’m sure there aren’t many like him around!).

The temptation to jump right in and start swatching is almost too much to bear. I am torn between a deep felt wish to be a systematic sensible under control type of person (very Swiss!) and finish one project before I start the next (well, Ok then, one of the four projects currently ongoing) and the sheer naughtiness of just throwing care to the winds and following my desires..

Which is it to be?
