Nothing much planned and everybody just pottering around and doing their own thing. I took myself off to the swimming pool this morning, swam lengths for half an hour and then sat in the hot pool for a few minutes. To be honest, I hate swimming pools and find swimming pretty dull, but it felt good just to do some exercise for the first time since I injured my back in December. I need to get my metabolic rate up too – either that or I have to stop eating as much as normal. Exercise is always the winner in that situation. I love eating and have next to no willpower….

This afternoon I sat and listened to Radio 4 and quietly got one of my UFOs finished. Another battered paper bag shoved into a corner has bitten the dust…yaaaaay!

I cut out this skirt in late November and then ran out of steam. Today I sat chuckling to myself as I sewed the six gores together. My school uniform skirt in the 1970s was a 6 gore skirt pretty much identical to this. I hated that skirt – I really thought it was the most uncool thing out. (Except we didn’t say things were cool or uncool then). I was convinced it made my bottom look big. When I look at the photos from those days I was a stick insect. I barely even had a bottom at all, so I really don’t know how I could possibly have thought that. Now I would say that this sort of skirt is fairly flattering for ladies of a certain age, who most certainly do have a bottom.

Anyway, I’m pretty happy with the result!

The pattern is Butterick B4136 and the fabric is a linen mix I think (it doesn’t seem to crease as much as pure linen – but what do I know?). I picked it up in my little local Bernina shop a couple of years ago – they literally have about 5 rolls of fabric at any one time, and this one jumped right out at me. I think it’s a little different and I’ll be able to dress it up or down.

I’m wearing it tonight – we’re all going out to see The Tourist. I guess I still don’t fit into the ‘glamorous’ category, but I might just make it into the ‘made an effort’ one.

Which is a start.

Helen

I’ve had a lovely day today.
