Up in the hills we still have a little snow, but it’s melting fast and down by the lake it’s already long gone. I’m feeling a little better, but still as weak as dishwater and as though my head doesn’t really belong to me. Despite being a bit wobbly on the old pins, the temptation of warm air that felt like the beginnings of spring was just too much to resist. It’s all a trick of course. Next week will probably bring another huge dump of snow and arctic air. But at least I got to have a tiny bit of spring in February – imagine, 9 degrees and I was too hot in my down jacket. Too hot! In February! How often can you say that?

The lakeshore path was a little muddy, but the views were glorious and the lake glistened in the golden light. We’ve had so much cold and grey and January seemed very long this year – maybe because I seemed to be out of action for so much of it – that today felt like a real gift. It felt sooo good to feel mild air and see a blue, blue sky. I felt a bit jealous watching all the runners out running the 17km path round the lake – I’d have loved to be out doing that too. In a few weeks I should be back into action though – just as spring comes for real! I can’t wait…

On the home front, we now have casualty number 6.

Can you see how angry Bumble Bee is with me? She’s doing her ‘I’m ignoring you because you do horrible things to me’ face. She hates the stupid collar. It makes her walk funny and bang into things. But there’s no choice as she has started pulling her hair out again – this time again from her tail. She’s done this before and been tested for everything under the sun – all negative – and the vet thinks it’s psychological. You wouldn’t believe how much love and adoration Bumble gets, but there you go, something isn’t right. I have a vet’s appointment for her on Monday for innoculations anyway, so I guess I’ll just pick up some happy hormones for her. Have you come accross happy hormones for cats? You may laugh – I know I did – but when we had this problem before I got a little bottle from the vet which I had to plug into the electric socket and it omitted feline hormones – and it works. She stops pulling her hair out and everything goes back to normal.

I wish it worked on teenagers 😉

Helen

We are having a bit of a heatwave at the moment.
