Today is high summer – in April. Unbelievable.<\/p>\n

I’ve got into summer mode, shorts and t-shirt and the feeling that the warm weather will last forever. It probably won’t and somehow that makes these glorious days all the more precious and to be savoured. It’s impossible to stay indoors. The garden chairs are on the patio and wherever I look everything is sprouting like crazy and bursting into flower. It’s truly gorgeous!<\/p>\n

Today from early morning I’ve been working in the garden. I’ve dug a whole lot of unwanted things out of my aromatic garden, worked on the earth and planted new things. It’s taken me a long time to learn that gardens can change. Just because something is insanely happy in one place doesn’t mean it has to stay there forever if it is taking over the world or I just plain don’t like it. Now I try to revamp corners of the garden every so often – it’s a wonderful feeling seeing a newly planted bed and wondering how it will develop. Will the plants be happy in their new home, will they compete with one another or muddle along happily? I can’t wait to see.<\/p>\n

My vegetable garden is almost planted – I think there are just carrots and onions still to plant, and maybe some parsnips if I have space. The salads are looking happy in the cold frame with the Swiss chard and I’m already patrolling for slugs regularly.<\/p>\n

Can you tell that my garden makes me insanely, deliriously happy? It really does – but only on beautiful warm sunny days like today. When it’s cold and rainy and grey and grotty you can keep it.<\/p>\n

Hopefully this week will see some much needed sewing time…so I’ve been auditioning new fabrics. This is Meadowsweet<\/em>. I’m a bit scared of the big bold patterns, but I’m really drawn to the rich pinks and lime greens. I know I shouldn’t be thinking of new projects, but what the heck, I am! It’s spring and I want to work on something new and bright and fresh.<\/p>\n

The fabrics are so strongly patterned that I think I’ going to have to combine them with solids and probably some off-white – otherwise I think the whole thing could be a bit migraine-inducing! It’s all way outside my comfort zone but I think the sunshine has gone to my head and I’m loving it!<\/p>\n

I haven’t decided which pattern to work with – I think it’s going to have to be simple and have fairly large pieces – I can’t see the large patterns working any other way. And it has to be modern, definitely modern….<\/p>\n

What fun…<\/p>\n
