I’ve used it to make cosmetic bags, but haven’t quite jumped in to start a quilt with it. The problem has always been that I love it SO much that I can’t contemplate either making something with it and screwing it up, or actually finding at the end of a project that I’ve used it all up and THERE IS NO MORE!

I’m hard pushed to say why I love it so much. I mean there are so many fabric lines on the market, but for me Bliss just knocks the socks off the rest. Left to my own devices I would never put turquoise and olive green together or with red, but they just work so well. Maybe it’s that little bit of unpredictability that just gives it a zing! I’m looking forward to Bonnie and Camille’s newest line Ruby coming out in the autumn, but my heart tells me that it just won’t be quite as good. The pinnacle has been reached. Bliss is the best.

I’ve got a whole pile of projects that I should be working on, but this afternoon I finally decided to take all the Bliss out of the cupboard and see if I can make some progress in choosing a pattern to make with it. I actually surprised myself. I hadn’t realized that I had quite as much as I do. Two quilts worth at least, I would guess. How great is that? I had been looking longingly at more fabric on ebay, having somehow forgotten that I had a whole pile of fat quarters sitting at the back of the cupboard. No idea how that happened.

So, tell me my friends. What did you do with your Bliss? Did you opt for simple and striking or complicated and challenging. What works best with this fabric line? I’m tending towards something simple – maybe with a good lot of flying geese and stars – always my favourite patterns. Initially I had thought I would make something from Monique Dillard’s wonderful new book Fat Quarter Winners – but the quilts there look like they will work best with monochromatic fabrics. So I’m still looking for inspiration.

I’m planning a happy evening on the floor surrounded by quilt books and patterns. Whatever I choose, it has to be good!

Happy stitching!

Helen

My absolute favourite fabric in recent years has been Bliss by Bonnie and Camille.
