Whew…<\/p>\n

I’m just back from a wonderful week in England. Even the weather managed to be perfect – which was just as well as Swiss husband had threatened me that if it rained all the time he wouldn’t be going back to England….ever!!<\/p>\n

We visited Wiltshire, which is a part of the country that was new to me, being a northern lass. What a delight! We stayed in a National Trust cottage built in 1445 in Lacock, an absolutely delightful village where nothing is under about 250 years old. You may have seen Lacock – and possibly also our cottage – if you’ve ever watched any of the BBC period dramas. Cranford was filmed there, along with parts of Pride and Prejudice with (swoon!) Colin Firth and also bits of Harry Potter. I need to rewatch P&P and HP to check exactly which bits and I’ve already ordered Cranford from Amazon.<\/p>\n

Isn’t the National Trust brilliant! We took out a family membership on our second day and more than got our money’s worth visiting all sorts of delightful houses and even the prehistoric sites at Avebury and Stonehenge. The highlight was probably the gardens at Stourhead on the most perfect day imaginable. Even the children thought that was the best – the garden really is that amazing! (Although my son thought the monkeys ripping pieces off people’s cars (thankfully not ours!) in the Longleat Safari Park came a pretty close second).<\/p>\n

So here is Stourhead for your edification….do visit if you are ever within a hundred miles. Breathtaking!<\/p>\n

I do love going back to England to visit and this was a really good trip with lots of fish and chips, really good Somerset cider in the pub next door, cream teas and a trip to Marks and Spencers. We came back fortified with Cadbury’s chocolate and lots of M&S undies and socks…and a few too many pounds round my middle!<\/p>\n

It’s good to be home and amazingly I’m even home alone, as the children have now headed to French camp and my husband has gone on a motorbike tour with his biker chums. Which means it’s just me and Bumble Bee this week. How cool is that? More about my plans in the morning \u00a0after I’ve done a 17km training run….<\/p>\n

I also brought some nice little National Trust goodies back with me – so do stop by tomorrow and I’ll have a giveaway!<\/p>\n
