Although I love to knit and am a lifelong knitter, in my heart of hearts I’m a quilter. I always, always have quilting to do, pieceing or handquilting or something.

But right now…. nothing….lots of UFOs which I keep taking out, looking at, praying for inspiration over, and finally putting away again. I’m sure the right moment will come when I will get on with these projects, but frankly, right now ain’t it. There just isn’t any thing that sets me on fire or gets my creative juices flowing. I know I vow to always tackle an old project before I jump into something new, but boy, I’m struggling with that right now.

While perusing some of my favourite blogs this morning, I looked in on Cathy at Cabbage Quilts, and what can I say? I was blown away by the explosion of colour and pattern that greeted me there. Do take a look, Cathy’s latest quilt is going to be a real knockout! It brought me back to thinking about one of the most fun quilts I’ve ever made and which you can see…above…and below….

Daughter no.2, aka the Hollywood Starlet chose the pattern (Kansas Twister from American Scrap Quilts by Liz Porter and Marianne Fons) and the fabrics and both are a fair indication of her personality. It was all way outside my comfort zone, being brought up in England to be tasteful and understated at all times – and I really had a blast with it! Cathy’s quilt is even wilder and left me with the impression that looking at it couldn’t do anything other than make me feel energized and well, glad to be alive.

My sewing machine is calling to me. Maybe between a few rows of Granny’s second sock I can start to tinker around with some wild and wonderful piecing ideas. A little handquilting wouldn’t come amiss round here either, come to think of it. There are sometimes just too many temperamental teenagers under one roof. Mum needs a little therapeutic stitching.

Have a good week out there in cyberspace!

Helen

I’ve been doing a lot of knitting recently and to be perfectly frank I’m itching to be stitching again.
