I’m back from my gallivanting and full of new ideas and plans, refreshed and rejuvenated (well as much as that’s possible after travelling with teenagers!). I truly didn’t mean to stay away from the blog so long, but after a week without writing wordpress wouldn’t let me into the site without a code that I didn’t have with me….so there you are. I’m sorry I was gone so long, but now I’m back with a vengeance.<\/p>\n

There’s nothing like coming home from a long vacation to appreciate home. I had a great time in the US and Canada, but it felt good to sleep in my own bed last night, even if I was a bit jet-lagged and awake when I shouldn’t have been. However, if I ever get sick of living in Switzerland, then I’m moving to either Vancouver Island or Banff. What beautiful places to live. I’m sure I could be very happy in either. Clean crisp air, beautiful views …..I’m sure I’ll be telling you more about the trip and showing you some of the magnificent views in the next few days. Thank you to my brother and his wife and Kendall and her family for giving us all a great time!<\/p>\n

As you can imagine, after two and a half weeks without a sewing machine I’m raring to get going again. I did take some knitting with me though.<\/p>\n

Unfortunately these seem to be unphotogenic socks. The camera does nothing for this yarn. In the flesh this is a gorgeous subtle medley of dark jewel tones. It’s a Smooshy<\/em> sock yarn by Dream in Colo<\/a>r<\/a>. Right now I can’t find the label with the colour – but it is way, way dreamier than in this photo. (Maybe if the sun would just shine over here in Switzerland and the rain stop – please – it would look better).<\/p>\n

The pattern is one of those understated gems that I know I’m going to be making again and again. It’s \u00a0Retro Rib Socks<\/em> by Evelyn A. Clark \u00a0from Favourite Socks 25 Timeless Designs from Interweave.<\/em> The rib pattern is super neat and has an amazing amount of give to it. These may, just may, be the hand-knitted socks that don’t fall down.<\/p>\n

I’m going to be doing a great amount of sock knitting over the next couple of months. I’ve just realized that it’s only two months till Christmas and I’ve promised way too many people hand knit socks as gifts. This could possibly be the beginnings of an embarrassing situation.<\/p>\n

On that happy note I’m returning to my laundry mountain range…..<\/p>\n
