The painful truth
So here we are at the end of the year. I think I can say on the second last day of the year, that I’m not going to buy anymore yarn or fabric during the rest of 2012, nor am I going to finish any super-ginormous stash using projects. That bit at least is a shame!
This was the first year I’ve kept a tally of the ins and outs. And it turned out to be a bit of a shocker if I’m honest.
So what was the damage?
I’m really ashamed about this….. and it’s going to make me be much better behaved next year….
I am 6km up on yarn. 6km! Yes you read that right.
I completed 8 pairs of socks, three cardigans and two scarves during the year…..which means that I, erhm, bought really rather a lot….
The fabric situation is even worse – but I’m blaming Houston and Ste Marie aux Mines for that! I’m 117.25m up on the year. I can’t believe I’m even admitting to that. Dreadful, shockingly dreadful.
But I did make 6 bed-sized quilts and 2 wallhangings and there are quite a few things in the works which I haven’t taken into account.
More to the point, my cupboards are full. There’s no space for any more.
I bet you can guess what one of my New Year’s resolutions is going to be!
Yes really!

It is hard to resist the siren call of cuddly wool and scrumptious fabric, especially nowadays when we can go shopping at any time via the internet.
No need to hang your head in shame – we all need a little retail therapy now and then.
You have had a productive year and I am sure that you will manage to make a good dent in the remaining stash in 2012.

That is sobering indeed, I fear I’ve done likewise but had the good sense not to keep track for this past year. Ah, bring on the New Year I have plans for culling the stash and streamlining my projects. We’ll see… wish me luck.

I could not buy any fabric for years and still have too much. But, we all know that’s not going to happen. I just have to start sewing like a mad woman.
Happy New Year

Now that’s one impressive yarn stash! I don’t have that much but I do have yarn that’s been in there for about five years and never been used, so I think it’s time it went. Same with the fabric. I must have between 20 and 30 metres. However, I’ve recently started sewing again so plan to use that up next year. And no new purchases till it’s all gone. Yeah, right … !

I bought much, much less this year but of course my stash increased anyway.
I do not buy on line, I do not buy what I can easily find everywhere any time of the year, I do not buy quiet, basic and normal stuff (it is already in my stash), still there is so much out there that I wish to bring home: how can you go to Provence for instance and not bring back some interesting fabrics?
I think that the time arrives for every one to realise that we need to reduce our purchases, if only for a space problem!
May 2012 be a creative, serene and full year.
