A touch of spring
Finally, finally, finally the sun shone.
It’s been so long coming. We’ve had the longest winter I can remember. It was the coldest March for 100 years and we’ve had 50% more grey fog days than in a normal winter, which means we’ve basically been living in thick fug for months and the sun has been a very, very rare visitor.
Until today that is. We had sunshine and little fluffy clouds and even views to the Alps, which I’d almost forgotten were there at all. The temperatures are due to rise at the weekend and people are daring to mention the S word.
Today was my day off and the light and freshness of it all filled me with energy that has been sadly lacking for months – so I’ve been rushing about like a crazy woman all day. Isn’t it incredibly how grey blah weather saps your spirit and then bing a little bit of sun and I’m rushing around like a Duracell bunny!
I can even feel the start of springcleanitis coming on.
So I bought myself tulips, which were actually grown here (OK, OK, so they were in a polytunnel, but you can’t have everything) and some herbs and planted up the big tub of herbs that I keep on the patio. And shhhh….I washed a window…..only one because window washing is my most hated job and I’m rubbish at it, but I do now have one clean sparkly window in the house (and 99 grubby unseethroughable ones!). I cooked Boeuf Bourgignon for dinner and I caught up with the ironing mountain.
I think I’m almost turning into a domestic goddess.
I’d better sit down to recover and have a cup of tea!
Helen

Yep, sunshine streamed in – and showed all the dust, so yesterday was spring cleaning at the flat! No window washing, though: didn’t you know you can’t wash windows when the sun is shining?! Great excuse!!
We even had lunch outside š®
And then arrived home to all the spring bulbs in flower, yay…

I love tulips, they’re my favourite flower (my wedding bouquet was tulips and calla lilies). Yours are gorgeous with their vibrant colours.
I love cleaning windows but hate cleaning the fridge. Maybe we should have a cleaning swap?

Such beautiful tulips would brighten any day! Although I think I would need more than than to get me going on my housework disaster. Maybe a cup of tea first…

You tempted me to the florist today for some tulips!!
I’m so glad the weather is getting better. I was out on the garden on Tuesday and I felt so much better.

Not only a domestic goddess but inspiring! Having read your previous blog and being in a similar situation myself (migraines and feeling pressured because of trying to do the same amount of work as those working full time when I’m doing only four days) I realised I needed to do something about it too. I went to see my line manager yesterday and yipee – he’s taken some of my work load off me.
Also inspired by you I bought myself a bunch of tulips on the way home to celebrate! Unfortunately I’m not inspired to do the whole cleaning windows and ironing thing…
Thank you.

Best bit of that post is how happy and content you sound. Sunshine can make such a big difference!

You sound really happy Helen. Good to hear! It’s probably hard for you to believe but here in Australia, and I’ve heard other parts of the world, the sun can shine so incessantly and it can be so hot that it saps all energy, and you just hang out for a grey day and rain. You’ve had the longest winter and we’ve had our longest driest summer for many years in South Australia. The temps are cooler now but were still hanging for rain.
