The big five oh
Today is my birthday and I’m taking that big step into the next decade.
I’m not actually sure how I can possibly be 50. I mean I don’t feel 50. I hope I don’t look 50 – at least on a good day. I’m not sure I do the stuff that 50 year olds do….Inside I feel about 25….
Do you remember when we were young and our mothers hit 50 – I think I was 14…..I remember thinking that 50 was REALLY OLD. People were just older younger then if you get what I’m rabbiting on about. They wore tweed skirts, had perms, tutted at anything even remotely cool we bought with our pocket money, had no idea who the people on Top of the Pops were and were just well, frumpy and middle aged.
I’m glad those days are over. I don’t want to have one of those perms like the Queen and go gracefully grey. I want to stay disgracefully blonde(ish) and run in the woods until I’m 80. I want to go to cool movies with my kids and experiment with technology and gel nails. I want to dance to Robbie Williams, eat sushi and just chill.
And I shall……
Helen
(Sorry for the blogging absences of late. I somewhat underestimated the time I had available (non-working) to prepare for Christmas and ended up a tad frazzled. I gave myself permission to sshhhh let things go a little……
It’s called cutting some slack for the almost to be 50’s
It was great!
But I’m back…or at least trying to be. The intention is there. Can’t promise more than that 😉 )

Helen, let me be the first of your readers to wish you a very happy birthday – hope you are having a wonderful day.
I too still feel 25 most days although I am closer to 70 than 60. While I don’t run in the forest I do take long brisk walks almost every day and would never consider getting a perm.

Happy birthday! I hit 50 last February and yes, it’s amazing to think we’re now the age all those old people were in our childhood, though I’ve no doubt the next generation are thinking the same thing we did. I’ve always had curly hair so I do run the risk of the half-price-on-Thursdays-shampoo-and-set look if it’s too short. However, I’ve decided my hair isn’t white nor grey – it’s cream!

Happy Birthday Helen! You have captured well how many of us feel, but I am not so sure one is old at 80, maybe at 150. It is all an attitude I think.

Happy Birthday Helen – have a great day!!

Joyeuse anniversaire! I’m enjoying my fifities (I’m a year and a bit older than you) but like you, I can’t quite believe I’m really that age! Mentally I don’t feel it at all, but at times my body begs to differ!
Have a fabulous day,
Steph x

Happy, happy birthday, Helen! I felt no changes when I turned 50, but 55 was different. I felt older all of a sudden. I think that has something to do with what Michael is suffering, but that’s our reality. I loved reading this post and wish you the best coming year, my English/Swiss friend. xoxo

Happy Birthday! I completely understand how you feel! I, too, feel about 25 even though the calendar tells me I’m really 47! And I know my children think I’m old, but I don’t plan on feeling old for a long while!

Hiccy burpday! I can’t believe you’re 50 either! Hope it’s a fun decade anyway, with plenty of moments to embarrass your kids and grow old(er) disgracefully 😀

Happy Birthday! I had no idea you were anywhere near 50 when we met. Age is a state of mind. I hit a milestone birthday next month. I am going to celebrate all year and not act my age if I can help it.

Happy Birthday Helen! It’s still your birthday, albeit late. Of course, I’m of the opinion that birthdays should last at least a month, if not more. Why not? Have another glass of champers & enjoy being so young! 🙂

happiest of birthdays!

Happy 50th Birthday Helen. I know what you mean about people seeming to age quicker back then. I agree with you, let’s keep young! xo

Happy happy birthday!! I hit 50 eighteen months ago & agree entirely. Feel like I am around 28 but would not want to be 28 again for the world. Mind you the body feels around 80!!
Can’t run cause of the perpetually torn achilles tendons but enjoy my seafront strolls.
I think the whole not being like 50 year olds of our teen years is cause we were bought up believing we could do anything & do.
Mind you we do get great discounts on insurance & can join Saga now. LOL

Happy (belated) birthday Helen; hope you had a lovely day!

Happy Birthday Helen! Yes I know EXACTLY what you mean. I don’t feel any different to in my early 20s but looking in the mirror tells me that quite some time has passed. However I am determined to make the most of whatever age I am – last week we were whizzing down the Alps on our skis trying to believe that we are still youthful and energetic! My aching knees / calves / thighs say otherwise…

Happy birthday Helen! 🙂 x

Happy birthday Helena definitely wouldn’t have put you at 50. Remember, age is just a number!!
December 29th, 2013 at 11:40 pm
And that was meant to say Helen, not Helena!!!

A bleated happy birthday, Helen! 50? Pfft, that is no age at all. I hope you had a great day, lovely lady!

Happy Birthday Helen! What’s 50, just a number. I’m sure you’re one of the younger generation of 50. My Mum turned 60 this year and she is definitely not what I associate 60 with. She’s definitely a lot younger than my Grandmas were when they were 60. They were old ladies! It’s definitely about attitude, dress, appearance and confidence.

Happy belated Birthday Helen!
I too turned 50 in 2013, so far so good I too feel 25 in my head only with way more experience!
