Beautiful Houses

Tuesday, January 4th, 2011

As seen on my daily strolls around Andermatt.

I could happily live in any of these! They’re lovely, aren’t they? – some very old and some new and somehow they all piece together so well! I just love mountain homes.

My purple scarf is making progress, but I’ve decided not to show it until it’s done. Two inches a day doesn’t make for exciting viewing!

Have a happy day,

Helen

I love Swiss houses. Just LOVE them, and they are so much bigger than back in the UK. Even the apartments are huge. And the absolute best are the stairs. In the UK they are steeper and the treads are small, but here, no matter where I go, they are shallower and the treads are deep. So much easier for me to manage. I mentioned this to a builder in the UK and he said it was all cost related, and space. Well, my entire detached UK home would fit on the first floor of my sister’s house. Crazy stuff.
The other thing is having basements. Wonderful. AND the fact that there are no rows and rows of identical houses all facing the road. In SA they were built to face the sun for maximum heat efficiency. I could go on for hours, but I LOVE Swiss houses!! I may have mentioned that already.
    I can dream though……..

And now I will stop hogging your comments!

Oh now I know where you are! I’ve been wondering. Somehow it rang a bell but I couldn’t put a finger on it! It seems you are having great weather! Enjoy the rest of your holiday! Vreni x

I love the first house! Where we live there don’t seem to be many properties like this, but there are tons a short drive away in Jura. I do think that modern Swiss houses are definetly built better than the ones I’ve seen in the UK.
