Meadowsweet on the washing line

Saturday, May 14th, 2011

With only a few odds and ends of fabric left from my fat quarter bundle I think I can say that Meadowsweet is more or less done! I’m waiting for some fabric to arrive from the US for the borders, binding and backing, but the main part of the quilt is complete.

I had to laugh after I had hung it on the washing line. My crazy blocks have magically morphed into quite a soothing and unified mass. How clever. I had no idea that that would happen. I guess it just shows that fabric designers know what they are doing, while I on the other hand, know nothing!

Working with this fabric line has been an interesting experience. I wanted to use something very different and outside my comfort zone and at the start felt very unsure of the fabric combinations. I couldn’t get any sort of picture in my head of how they would all fit together, but lo and behold, fit together they did. The end result is somehow miraculously rather soothing and back into my comfort zone.

I hummed and hawed for a long time about ripping out the solids, but I’m very glad I did. I think the end result would probably have been a lot more discordant if I hadn’t.

Proof that you can teach an old dog new tricks and sometimes it does you good to branch out into something new.

Mmm I have some crazy Kaffe Fassett fabrics somewhere. Maybe now I’ll be brave enough to do something with them!

It turned out great! Hope you post again when the borders are on. I really like the back shot, too.

Hello Helen, how lovely the top turned out – I was in favour of the solids but it definitely looks like you made the right decision. Wish I had a clothes line – they are not allowed in our neighbourhood but sometimes I cheat and put out a little rack just to get that “fresh-air” smell. Enjoy the rest of your weekend – raining here which is not good news for our farmers nor for the people who were just starting to sort out their homes from the previous flood waters.

Helen its beautiful! It kinda breaks one of the quilting rules that I learnt early on lol as in the eye needs somewhere to rest, but then there shouldn’t be any rules in creativity šŸ™‚ Good for you for challenging yourself and look at the beautiful result, I also hope you will share pictures with the border etc..
I wonder where I’ve been to have missed your posts of progress….

This is a lovely quilt! Fresh & summery. I have been doing a similar pattern in Rouenneries but it is taking me an age! Very impressed with how quickly you turned yours around. Beautiful!
