Decisions

Wednesday, May 18th, 2011

I really needed to give myself some breathing space this week. It was as though I had actually run out of steam and all systems had said STOP! I’m not sick or stressed out, but I am at several (small, insignificant) crossroads in my life and stopping gave me the space and time to look at where I am and make some decisions about where I want to go from here. Next week I’ll celebrate 20 years of living in Switzerland. I think this milestone may subconsciously have pushed me to take stock.

You’ll be pleased to know that I’m not going off at the deep end or doing anything very drastic. I’ve been on the path I’m on for a good while now and have really come a long way, ditching unnecessary commitments along the way. I think I’ve more or less got my work-life balance right and I can honestly say that I enjoy life! However, there are some goals that I want to achieve which I’m making almost no progress towards at all.

This week I really felt a big push to just DO IT.

So I have, gulp… actually signed up and paid hard cash to register for my first…..MARATHON!!!!

Lucerne on 30th October. 42.6km. 2 loops. Pretty. I’m hoping that like the Berglauf I did last year it will be so pretty that I’ll be busy admiring the view and the kilometres will whizz by. My immediate reaction is always to get competitive in these situations and push myself to do a good time, but I’m really truly going to take it slow (and finish without killing myself!). Whew! It feels good. Now I have some work to do. And exactly 165 days to do it in.

Good for you for having taken that big step (or should I say run) – you’ll do just fine. Also congratulations on your twenty years in Switzerland – I know someone who would love to be able to say that.

Lucerne will be a beautiful lace to run a marathon.

Good luck! Good to have a challenge to focus on. I am a terrible runner so have great respect for anyone who can manage a marathon. Just thinking about it gives me a stitch!

Well done you! Go easy on those injuries…Lx

Good for you! I’m full of admiration – way beyond my capabilities. I’ll happily cycle for hundreds of kilometres, but run – no!
