Getting ready for the big day!

Wednesday, June 22nd, 2011

I’m nearly ready for my big day!

Today I’ve basted the Meadowsweet quilt I’m hoping to get quilted and cut out lots of fabric to be used in my Bliss blocks. To get rid of any feelings of guilt I’ve also washed floors, done laundry, ironed and tidied up – in the hope that no-one will notice if everything gets neglected tomorrow. Luckily for me it’s also forecast to rain, so there will be no garden guilt.

If everything goes according to plan and I transform into Mrs super-efficient quilter tomorrow then I’ll give you updates as I go along tomorrow. If anyone is retreating virtually with me, then do send me photos of what you’re getting up to or a link to your blog. I can’t wait to see how much I can manage to achieve in a concentrated day’s work!

I do feel a bit naughty doing this, which is crazy really. If I was paying hard cash to go away somewhere to do a retreat I think I’d domehow feel less guilty. This feels a bit like secret stolen time. Bonkers. I have to switch off that feeling PDQ. What is it about us women that we feel like this? I bet you wouldn’t find many men feeling bad about taking a day to go and play golf on the sly. Somehow we women are so engrained to put everybody and everything first that we actually feel bad about doing something good for ourselves. At least I do. A little bit. I’m going to try very hard to put any such silly thoughts out of my mind.

And just enjoy….despite the demolition noises that are STILL going on outside…grrrr….

Enjoy your quilt day mini retreat. But FYI…as you get a little older, like me, selfish is ok and you deserve it for all the hard work you have put in to your family. My DIL even told me she was glad I was doing so much sewing and other things I love after putting in 30 years of being a very attentive mom and wife. I’ll be thinking of you.

It looks like a perfectly reasonable thing to do.
I look forward to seeing your progress.
Straight line quilting and stitch in the ditch, or free motion?
