From the sublime to the ridiculous…

Friday, July 1st, 2011

Just so that there is no doubt about the matter, I am not a flibbertigibbet. I’m really not. Here is the proof…

Giotto by Anna Bell in Lana Grossa Soja. A delicate and fiddly sock knitted on teeny weeny needles  – 2.25 mm (US 1). They don’t get a whole lot smaller than that and this sock took oodles of concentration and a whole lot of knitting.

But it is a delight. I hope you agree!

At the other end of the spectrum…

Otello by Louisa Harding in Lamb’s Pride Bulky – the back almost finished during an afternoon watching Wimbledon plus a little of the Athletissma from Lausanne. Knitted on super-ginormous 7mm needles (US 10 1/2). I’m in shock over how quick this is knitting up. I hardly ever knit with bulky wool and after so much fiddly stuff recently this is a revelation. The ultimate in stash-busting 🙂

So I guess you can imagine how much housework is being done at my house!

Love the blue of the Otello!

I must admit that every once in a while I get a kick out of knitting with larger yarn and needles… things just move along so quickly. The colour of the Lamb’s Pride is wonderful.

    Hello Helen
Nice to meet you. I’ve just found your blog via The Quince Tree. I was attracted by the fact that you live in Switzerland – the country at the top of my wish list. I off to browse around your blog and get to know you a little.
    Cheers
Helen ( or Helsie as my friends and family call me )

I love the blue yarn, Helen. Your projects always look beautiful!

Didn’t they turn out pretty?! Definitely doing those – what needles do you usually do socks on? I nearly always use 2.25mm, occasionally 2mm for smaller sizes or 2.5mm for men’s socks. But I’m a loose knitter (!).
7mm in contrast – wow. I’ve started another Soay on 3.5mm… total lack of discipline LOL

How do you fit so much creative time into your busy life? I’m a complete slob in comparison. I haven’t knitted for months and I miss it, but I’m tied to the keyboard at the moment. However, I shall make more effort and get the needles out.
