Back to Bliss

Thursday, September 8th, 2011

The joy of a little gentle sewing. It soothes the soul and does a girl good.

I put two borders on the Bliss Thimble Blossoms Picnic Roll-up quilt top. Even mitred corners went on like a dream today and now it’s all lying on the floor reading to be basted. Along with the rest of the quilting world, this is my least favourite job, but the delights of quilting with my Bernina 820 have rather taken the edge off the horrors.

It measures 84 inches x 74 inches (214cm x 188cm), so it’s a good size. I’m thinking of swirly loops with the odd flower thrown in for good measure for the quilting pattern.

I’m getting quite wild in my old age!

Helen, you have really been producing a lot of beautiful projects lately. This is lovely and I like the double border.

Bliss should get an award for being the most versatile and beautiful fabric collection ever! Your quilt top is just wonderful.

The quilt looks great and I’m impressed that you did mitered borders. Haven’t tried that yet. I did loops and flowers on my last quilt and was quite pleased with how it turned out. I’d kill for more throat space for quilting!

Delightful!!! I’m anxious to start quilting with my new machine but have to practice a bit first before I get going on something I’ve put a lot of effort into so as not to ruin it.

It’s looking wonderful! Basting is a pain but it’s a necessary evil, I guess. I’m thinking of investigating spray basting because those pins take forever.

Beautiful! Yes – I hate the basting bit too. A universal pain, it seems. I can’t wait to see the finished quilt.

You are brave, planning to wrestle with that huge quilt! But it is beautiful and will be even better after you have quilted it.
