Election and growing sleeves.

Saturday, May 8th, 2010

Here are three happy chaps. Mmmm, the one on the right doesn’t look too pleased with life. Time to move house I think…I’ve been glued to the UK election coverage for the last couple of days and almost a whole night. Exciting times for England. I hope that they sort things out among themselves pretty quickly as there are problems that need dealing with. Sooner rather than later really. Everyone is talking about a new political era. Politicians will have to work together and talk to each other and co-operate for the good of the country rather than just squabbling with each other trying to earn points. I’m not sure I’d call that a new political era – more like growing up….

The upside of all the TV and internet time-wasting is that I’ve been making magnificent progress with my knitting! This is the Retro Ribbed Turtleneck from the Green Mountain Spinnery. I feel like I’m into the home straight now. It should be done and dusted this week, which is good as Granny’s birthday is coming up and I have a pair of socks to knit super quick.

Only one small quibble with the sweater. Could someone please explain to me how I managed to knit the whole torso and put on the turtle neck without realizing that there was a mistake RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE OF THE FRONT? A naughty little purl stitch where there should have been a knit. How on earth did I manage not to notice it? I guess I can stick a brooch ontop of it, but it is in a little bit of a strange place for a brooch. I have been tearing my hair out trying to work out how to correct it, but it’s hopeless. I might as well knit a whole new sweater. I know this is one of those things that only I will ever notice, but I know that it is going to bug me every time I look at it. šŸ™

As I’m reading Amish Grace by Kraybill, Holt and Weaver-Zercher at the moment I am going to try really hard to follow the Amish way. Didn’t they alway include a tiny little flaw in their oh so perfect quilts – as a sign of modesty, against pride and to show that only God is truly perfect? Well I’m right there with them….

Have a nice weekend and make sure you don’t purl your knits,

Helen

Thanks, Helen, for your comment about the chicken quilt. I have a friend here who thinks it won’t go with the rest of the house. I think it doesn’t have to go with the rest of the house–just the kitchen. But anyway…..
That magazine is published in France, so I’m surprised you can find it where you are. I have a stack of quilting magazines I was going to take to guild to give away. If you will e-mail me your mailing address to suscleve@aol.com, I will be happy to send them to you instead.
Haven’t been keeping up with the UK elections. I think I did here that they haven’t picked a winner yet.
