Coming along nicely

Monday, December 5th, 2011

Here is a rather sub-standard photo of Ilsa’s quilt (thanks for your concern, but no my camera still hasn’t made an appearance….sob), taken on my phone….

I can only say that I’m delighted with how this quilt is turning out – and I hope Ilsa will be too! It’s a really girly quilt – I love the purple striped borders! Having now mastered the construction of highly accurate stars and flying geese – who knew what a difference a small piece of plastic could make! – putting the blocks and the flying geese together worked like a dream and saved me tons of time. I actually felt like the fairies must be giving me a hand during the night it all went together so quickly. Amazingly my mathematical calculations were correct and everything just fell into place.

And I confess to sitting back in amazement at that point!!

So now it’s onwards with yukky basting and quilting and hopefully this baby will be ready for shipping to England by the weekend!

Hope your week is starting off well!

Helen

it looks fantastic. And about basting; I always baste my quilts on a table using more or less this method: http://www.ohfransson.com/oh_fransson/2009/03/quilt-along-part-13-making-the-quilt-sandwich.html. I don’t stick the backing down as the weight of the fabric hanging over the table is enough to keep it stretched and I usually end up with quite a presentable sandwich. Good luck!

Oh I do hope your camera appears soon, Helen – what a disaster. BUT the quilt it gorgeous, and I am now thinking i need that magic piece of plastic too! I am sure there will be one very happy girl when she receives it!

Hello Helen, the quilt is absolutely gorgeous, great colours and I am sure that Isla will love it (I know I would).
I’ve ordered the ruler and am expecting it any day, can’t wait to try it out.
When I order something from the states it always takes a lot longer than from Canada due to the fact that parcels have to clear customs. Perhaps that is what has happened to your camera since it was mailed from England and most likely has to clear Swiss customs.

Stunning! You are not just a quilter, Helen….you’re a gifted creator of heirlooms.
