Arrested!
Nothing on the creative front to report from here today, but I have finished my Christmas cards and Christmas party invitations and my sewing machine is buzzing away as I quilt Ilsa’s quilt!
The big news is that Northumbria Police have made three arrests in connection with my mother’s robbery and two similar cases this week, which have also targeted old ladies living alone. So as I write mum has been whisked off to do an identity parade! Unfortunately she isn’t in the slightest bit observant, so may not be able to pick anyone out – but with a bit of luck one of the three ladies will manage to.
I’m very impressed with Northumbria Police – not only were they charming and sympathetically helpful with my mother, but they also seem to have got some results. When I called up this week to talk to PC Pickering, who was dealing with mum’s case, he really couldn’t have been nicer, more helpful or more reassuring. I’m glad the British police is full of people like PC Pickering.
I rather think I’m going to send him a big box of Swiss chocolates to say thank you!
Helen

Yeah! Now I hope they keep the buggers behind bars

That is great news, to know that (hopefully) they will no longer be preying on the elderly. I am sure that your mother will be relieved to put the whole thing behind her. It is good to hear that the police were so helpful and on the ball – I am sure that the chocolates will be much appreciated – I am sure that they get a lot more complaints than they get thanks.

So pleased to hear this news – fast workers!! Definitely earned some efficient Swiss chocs š Hope mum is feeling reassured, anyway.

That’s wonderful news. The cops get maligned so often, but they’re there, beavering away in the background and this time they’ve come up trumps. I hope your mum will feel more relaxed now.

Forgot to mention that we were broken into once in Cramlington and a member of the Northumbrian police force came round. We had a litter of five pups at the time (we’d taken on Chris’s dad’s pregnant dog cos he was going to have her put down). Anyway, all five tiny dogs made a beeline for the policeman’s trouser leg. He walked across the room with all five hanging from the hem! He was such a nice guy, didn’t mind a bit!

Sending Swiss chocolates to the police? Maybe this is why they were so efficient!

Hurrah for PC Pickering!

Also – thanks to your mother for being willing to go forward to report the theft in the first place, and to continue to cooperate with the police. Too often, people are too embarrassed, or aren’t willing to be bothered, or are too frightened – and yet without their cooperation, the police can’t do anything.

Wunderbar! I’m so glad for your news, Helen. God bless your mom. The quilt is gorgeous too!

So glad they’ve been apprehended! I certainly hope this provides some closure for your mother and helps her to put it behind her and move on.
