What to go and watch at the cinema this Christmas if you want a really good evening out!
As I’ve got older I’ve become more and more resistant to going out in the evening – especially in the winter. It takes a lot to drag me away from my cosy hearth. This week though I braved not only cold and dark, but also wind and torrential rain to go and see the most wonderful film. I can honestly say that if I hadn’t been meeting up with friends who I don’t see very often I wouldn’t have bothered – I certainly didn’t head out of the door with joy in my heart.
But I’m so glad I did. What a wonderful film.
If you haven’t made the effort to go and see The Help, then please do – you won’t regret it. It is a truly excellent film – and stays very true to the book, which isn’t always the case, and which I also loved. I see it was also nominated for 5 Golden Globes yesterday – including Best Film.
I hope it wins – and I hope you all go and see it!
Helen

I loved the book and was also pleasantly surprised about how the movie followed the book so closely. Have you read Lisa See’s “Snow Flower and the Secret Fan?” ooooohhhh my…..

I second this – what a wonderful movie! I’m also recommending The Way to everyone over the age to 35. If it makes it to Switzerland, it’s definitely worth dragging yourself out of the house for.

Yes, unlike “One Day” this is a film version I’m quite keen to see, having read a long excerpt of the book (sadly not the whole!)… Will let you know if we make it out this evening: the storm is pretty wild out there!

This is one of the few films that I enjoyed MORE than the book! Hearing the dialects in the characters helped to keep the story fresh and new (since I already knew what was going to happen from reading the book). I hope it wins all the Golden Globe awards. Fabulous film.

Hadn’t heard of this film at all. I shall keep an eye open for it but we only get about one film a month at our tiny part-time cinema at Boussac. We were meant to go to out to see the Tintin film there last night, but with the awful weather we decided not to. I’m relieved we didn’t because there was heavy snow about ten which is when we’d have been coming back.
Glad to hear you had such a lovely evening.

Helen I could not agree with you more. I loved the movie…it had some fun to it, some serious-ness and very good acting but most of all it was a story to be told….Have a wonderful Christmas..
