Sock finish no. 4 2010 – Granny’s socks are done!

Saturday, May 22nd, 2010

This morning I finished the socks for my mother’s birthday and posted them to England. They should by now be winging their way in that direction, but will be late (her birthday is tomorrow). I’ve warned mum that that will be the case, but as she has my brother and his wife visiting from Canada at the moment for the first time in a few years I think her mind will anyway be on other things!

I was really happy with the end result. The shadowing in the photo, which I took early this morning, really shows up the cable pattern. This is a really good sock pattern – I loved the cables and the heels and toes knitted up really neatly – so certainly one I would recommend!

The pattern is Uptown Boot Socks by Jennifer L. Appleby taken from Favorite Socks 25 Timeless Designs from Interweave. This is a sock book that is well worth investing in – it contains heaps and heaps of gorgeous patterns!

The yarn I used was the Merino superfein by Lana Grossa. I used three balls – which is what I had originally purchased and worried about being enough. Of course once I had found and bought an extra ball (what am I going to use that for, I ask myself?) it was fated that I wouldn’t need it. But at least I stopped worrying. Which is always a good thing.

This morning I received this in the post:

Carrie from Miss Rosie’s Quilt Co. has really excelled herself with this new book. It is, to be frank, the best quilting book that I’ve had my hands on in quite a while. The quilts are fabulous – totally to my taste with her predilection for scrappy flying geese, stars and bear paws. These patterns will be featuring here – heavily I’m sure- in the months to come. I can’t wait to get my fabric out!

Wishing you a happy Slow Down Sunday – and hoping to have one myself….

Helen

Beautiful socks for your Mum Helen, that will make her day I’m sure. I love cabling, haven’t knitted like that for years. I love knitting socks but mine are always pretty plain! Can’t wait to see some of Carrie’s quilts appearing here shortly, she does beautiful patterns. xo
