Stuff that needed doing….upcycling and other healthy pursuits!

Thursday, June 14th, 2012

I’m trying really hard to get back to some quilting, but had accumulated a lot of stuff that needed to be done first. I had little projects in piles all over my sewing room and decided this morning that the time had come to really finish things up and clear the decks a little. Most things didn’t require much time….just needed to be done….so may I present…

1) My Amy Butler tunic – in Amy Butler fabric. (I think I’m going to love wearing this, even though my delightful (?) son told me it made me look portly – what does he know?- pah!)

2) One of my fave summer dresses – which was about 6 inches too long. Isn’t it funny how things that we thought looked great two or three years ago just look really dowdy and a bit of a chop gives a dress or skirt a whole new life? (And it seriously only took 10 minutes, not more!!)

3) A Boden skirt which I absolutely love and have probably owned for 10 years. Again it was too long for today’s fashion and wouldn’t meet round the middle anymore. Because of the fancy stitching round the bottom I shortened it from the top (taking about 4 inches off), resewed the zip, and made a band-free waist with a little plain fabric. A success I think – even better because I couldn’t bear to give the skirt away and it really is as good as new and about a size larger!

4) Zippy bags for Danny (Mommy for Reals) who is collecting for a charity dear to her heart, TRAC – you can see what Danny is up to here. TRAC gives teenagers who are in the care system in the US a chance to go to summer camp – the zippy bags will be filled with toiletries and given to the girls to keep. Go Danny! I say – I’m glad to be of help and the bags are winging their way over to Arizona as I write. If anyone would like to offer their help I think they are now looking for pillowcases – but please check with Danny.

5) And finally, last but not least, what will I hope be a piece de resistance in due course. I bet you can’t guess what I’m making with these!!!

Things are looking a whole lot clearer around here and I feel like I have a whole new wardrobe – and most of it didn’t cost me a bean!

Helen

Well done Helen! Anything you wear would suit you!
What does “portly” mean? (I can suppose so many things, but I’m not sure which is right)
