The land of my birth

Sunday, July 8th, 2012

I paid a flying visit to England this weekend for a 30 year school reunion- which was a wonderful trip down memory lane…

….I also managed to fit in a trip to one of my favourite places on the planet.

Dunstanburgh Castle, Northumberland

I’ve been walking the two miles each way to this magnificent ruined castle on the Northumbrian Coast for my whole life. I try to go every time I’m in Northern England. One of the most magical places anywhere and very close to where my father was born and grew up. It’s very, very special to me.

I can completely relate to this post having just had the most wonderful experience meeting family I never knew I had. Places with meaning are a part of us, aren’t they?

Oh I love that walk to Dunstanburgh Castle. It is so beautiful. I love that whole coastline actually. One of the over looked parts of the world and that is fine by me as less crowds. Visitors come and go straight to Alnwick and then move on.

I adore the bareness of this coastline – I’ve always been drawn to places off the beaten track and would like nothing more than to take a walk along that rocky beach.
How brave of you to attend a school reunion lol.

I do like that castle, but have yet to get a good photo of it *sigh*

Northumberland is lovely. I enjoyed seeing it on film while watching VERA a detective show (British). I posted a photo of a finished quilt top recently.

You can just see Heathcliff pacing about the moors. It is a beautiful and rugged spot, thank you for sharing.
