You really don’t want to know….
…..what I’ve been doing for the last two days.
I wanted to be quilting Lime Fizz or Zigzag, or even getting as far as basting them, or making Katy’s block for Stitch Tease, or sending out the packages for the Sew Euro-bee-an bee….
Have I even touched any of these?
NO I HAVE NOT!
For the last two days I have been sewing Little Red Riding Hood capes in horrible shiny, slippery fabric. Yes you’ve guessed it. The ballet teacher got me, or rather she got my daughter and now I have a stack of capes to make. As my daughter is about to turn 18 and she’s been doing ballet since she was 4, I have been here before as you can imagine. In the past I have made lamb costumes, witch costumes, jumping jack costumes, spent 4 months sewing sequins on fish head costumes, been stage manager and done a whole lot of other stuff that I have tried hard to forget and put behind me. Now I’m spending beautiful sunny days sewing red, slippery capes.
When I tell you that these will be worn for 5 minutes or so for all of two performances, you can see my frustration.
This is the end though. When these are done, that’s it! FOREVER!!!!
It’s such a waste of time and effort though….
On a happy note I shall leave you with a photo of my agapanthus blossoms. Possibly my very favourite flower and I grew these from bulbs and it’s the first year they have flowered. They bring back lots of happy memories of the years I lived in California. There they are decidedly two a’ penny, here they’re a little more special!

OMFG!!! I feel your pain. You have a definite pass on all current & future plans of demented ballet teachers everywhere!!! I am thinking grandbabies here.
This is what it means when Olympians thank their Mums!!!
I made the fatal mistake of being very good at fundraising for my sons school. I made $1000 on chocolate sales then $6000 on a gala preview of the first Harry Potter film.
They even wanted to employ me so I would keep doing it!!
I claimed that I had a life to get back to & declined.
Ask me some time about my time as Quilt Guild President.
I have learned to go to the bathroom when committees are being formed. LOL
Lovely capes though.

OMG! I have avoided that completely despite the girls having been in some sort of dance since Em was still in nappies (literally). And like Lush said, we have lives. They tried to coerce me into chairing the PTA last year and I said no. When asked why I said because I had always helped for six years and I had no intention of spending my last two years with children in primary completely stressed just when I had got my life to a point where I occasionally had time to myself.

Ha ha ha! I can feel the frustration through the keyboard! Happily our dance class is very low key and consists mainly of the teacher picking up hideous polka-dot items from the manager’s clearance bin. I shall make a mental note that if ever this seems to ramp up into sequinning fish heads, to pretend I can’t sew and make a hasty exit!

Keep chanelling that ‘it’s the last time’ thought, grit your teeth and plough on through (and if it’s only for 10 minutes wear in total, no-one’s going to be looking that closely at how well they’re made 😉 )

Oh but what a bright and shiny 5 minutes! One day your daughter will be telling her daughter about how you always stepped up to make the costumes, and you will know it was worth it. I love your flower.

I can sympathize…I have been in the exact same shoes…and I wasn’t happy about it either. I kept thinking of the saying my Dad always said, “This too shall pass.”
