I’m not sure I’m feeling the love…what would you do?

Wednesday, October 3rd, 2012

In my continued half-square triangle avoidance campaign,  this morning I pulled out this UFO project…..it’s June Bug by Thimble Blossoms and the fabric is an older Kate Spain line.

I really can’t say I’m feeling the love. Do I want this on my wall? Nope? On my bed? Nope?

It seems a shame to give up on it all together, so I’ve been playing with the blocks on the floor. I’m thinking maybe a table runner? Nice autumnalish colors? It would go reasonably well in my dining room/kitchen…

How about this?

Too big. There would be no room left on the table.

or this?

Now this might work. What do you think? Is it blah? Or would it do? You can be honest, I have broad shoulders….

Maybe a table runner and then I could use the left over blocks to make some place mats…which is something I’ve been meaning to do for ages….although they would clash really really badly with my Portmerion plates (please tell me why I didn’t just buy white plates when I had the chance? They would have made life so much easier! There’s no hope of even eventually breaking the Portmerion and staring again either, as being a sensible mother of three I bought industrial quantities….)

Or do any of you ingenious ladies out there have an amazing suggestion as to what to do with this little lot?

Helen

I would use only the appliqued blocks and put them together with a sashing of sorts. Somehow the pieced block look too “bulky” (in lieu of a better word) for my taste. You could cut them into strips (across) and sew them together for the borders and/or sashing. But that’s only my opinion. I always say that people have to do what they like, it’s no good to follow someone else’s idea, if they don’t like them ;).
PS: Just looking at the blocks again, how about putting them on point?

Why don’t you make 2 mini quilts of 4×4 blocks each – would that be big enough to go on a side table? – and they can make nice handmade Christmas gifts? Or make them slightly bigger for baby quilts?

I agree they might look better with some sashing. You could do 2 completely separate mini quilts – one with the stripes, sashed – and one with the flowers, sashed with cornerstones?

I agree with Vreni that the two different blocks don’t look right together. I love the flowers through. Could you tune them into a quilt? Do you have enough fabric.
The again maybe you should put it all to one side and make a cake or something! Just till you’re back in your right skin, as they say here!

Do you need to donate something to a church auction? I think they would look lovely as pillow covers, with the petals on one side and the more blocky ones on the other. Sew them up and get them out of the house if you’re not liking them any more, but can’t bear to throw them away.

What about “letting go” of an entire quilt but using these blocks for a scrappy quilt back? They are cute but if you aren’t “into” them—move on to your next project!

    Thanks for the great blog!

    Cushion covers for the teenagers?

  7. Thorn Says:

I vote for cushion covers! Even with the same color schemes, the sparseness of the flowers seems out of balance with the “action” of the stripes. Both groups are lovely, but I think they might look better separated than together.

A Baby Girl Quilt wuld be lovely, I think! If there’s no one near you expecting one, perhaps there’s a worthy cause for a donation?!

I would make them up into a quilt..machine quilt it ,cot size, lapquilt or whatever, and give it to Oxfam or WI to hand on to someone more needy. No matter what you make it into, you are never going to like it. Take a ‘photo, wrap it up, give away, and clear your mind of it.

Go with the runner and place mats, to hell with matching with the dishes ;o)

My first thought was to add sashing but I really like the idea of adding them to a backing and I’d place them randomly and even on angles to make a fun and surprising backing.

I think you should work on something that makes you smile and set these aside or give them away.

I like the last table runner option, just two blocks wide and how about some solid sashing just a slim piece along the middle and a little wider at the edges in a vibrant colour- perhaps the orangey red? Or kona snow sashing then the orangey red for binding?
