Quiet day
This morning was the first morning this summer that I’ve headed off for a swim before getting on with everything that needed doing. My home overlooks this lake – the Greifensee and it’s about a five minute drive to reach it. I only ever swim here in the early morning. Later in the day the swimming area is always super-crowded with families, but in the morning it’s empty. Today there were two old ladies, some mallard ducks and tiny ducklings and me. Twenty minutes, that’s all it took. the water was almost warm and calm as glass. So near civilization and yet so incredibly peaceful. (The lake has protected status, so nobody is allowed to build along the shore). It set me up for the day.
In between my day job and house-cleaning I’ve been plodding along with the homespun blocks. It’s a bit of a pain sometimes, because the weave is looser than regular cotton and so the pattern often isn’t completely straight. But what the heck, it doesn’t need to be perfect. Just good enough will do. I’m happy with the effect I’m getting and now just need to decide on the size. I think I will probably add on row in each direction. That will make it a great size for bunk beds and it should be small enough that I will be able to machine quilt it myself.
It’s a great puttering project and I’m having fun using up all the fat quarters. I just wish I could remember where they came from. They remind me of loose summer dresses in the 1970s – but I certainly didn’t buy them then!
With greetings from sunny Switzerland
Helen

I love the picture of your lake and what a wonderful way to start your day! Its been really hot and muggy here the last few days which is unusual for us……and I so would love a good swim in a lake. I can’t complain though cause today I took a great swim in the pool.
