May 1st

It’s a public holiday today in Switzerland. I guess the socialists will have been protesting and smashing windows in Zürich again – it’s workers day – and somehow they feel the need to protest against the injustice in the working environment in Switzerland. Crazy really in a country that is incredibly well regulated and functions well without demanding we all pay super-high taxes. But there you go. I guess some people are never satisfied…and some people just like smashing windows.

The weather forecast was seriously rubbish, but all in all it turned out to be a pretty nice day. I went for a 5k slow run in the woods – which was just lovely and then did what I always do on fine days in the spring- weeding, weeding and more weeding. I planted some lettuces too and all in all I think the garden looks a little better. Not brilliant, but not bad either.

Then after a little bit of general domestic goddessery I got down to some bee sewing. It’s been a while and I’m a little behind, so it was good to catch up a bit.

2

I made these turquoise blocks for Di for Stitch Tease Part 2. Easy, relaxing and I think they will make a lovely quilt. Di is going to add some mustard highlights in her blocks.

3

Then I got down to making my favourite sort of blocks – using pieces from the scrap basket – for Celine for Sew Euro-bee-an. I have one more to make – but aren’t they fun? This is going to be fabulous quilt. Celine has a tutorial on her block if you want to have a go yourself.

Now the rain has started and I’m off to make Toad in the Hole for dinner – which will please the teenagers no end and bemuse my Swiss husband, who thinks it’s one of those strange English concoctions that he still hasn’t got used to even after 25 years!!

Have a nice evening!

Helen

I’m sitting here listening to the rain – and a little thunder, perhaps? I was not expecting precipitation!

Earlier today I was in Zug meeting a friend, and we sat outside, even though it was boiling. I was determined not to complain about being to hot because it was so nice to see the sun. And …. then it left :-/

I’ll bite: what is Toad in the Hole?

your flowers look lovely, as do those squares. Really scrumptious.

It’s been a beautiful day here, after a bit of a dodgy start. I wondered if you were still managing to get your running in!
You’re off the block with di’s block (excuse the pun) it’s going to be a beautiful quilt.
Toad in the hole – yum yum. We can’t get the right sort of sausages here unfortunately!

It’s a holiday here too today so I’ve had Z at home…but I too did my ST blocks for Di and yes, she will have an amazing quilt. Also love Celine’s blocks but they took a little longer.

Nice job on the blocks! I can’t wait for my day off on Monday, because the day off 3/4 of my staff had today nearly killed me!

Fab blocks, you’re all putting me to shame though, doing them on the first day! :o)

Toad in the Hole is on my list for next week – snap! Fortunately, my family love my strange English meals!
We had beautiful weather from lunchtime till about 5, just right for lunch down at the lake (outdoors!) and then a birthday coffee/cake party in our son-in-law’s family’s country garden 🙂 Be-yoo-tiful.
It only dulled when we moved on to the in-laws, a bit of drizzle and some stunning mist over the fields on the way home…

I really like the turquoise color combo and the design on the other. I did quilt planning today for a memory quilt for someone. I have been collecting pictures of her students and combining them with the music they have sung in the background. Brianna did the photoshop work for the collage and I am off to the digital print shop tomorrow to make a trial run. Very curious how they will look. I have a month to make this in. Hope the weather gets better but the garden is getting more care on our end, too.

Seems you were out getting your vitamin D today too. Makes the world of difference being able to be outside in the sunshine, doesn’t it!

Lovely blocks – the Eurobeean one looks so effective but dissecting it, the construction looks nice & simple – might have to bookmark that one! Hope you enjoyed your day off x

I only started on Celine’s blocks today. Completely lost my sewing mojo but I hope that it’s on its way back now. Your block is gorgeous, very bright and colourful. I’m looking forward to seeing Celine’s quilt all finished.
I should make Toad in the Hole, it’s so yummy.

Oh, your tulips looks lovely. We have had such a long winter, we don’t have any flowers in our garden yet. Sounds like you had a nice day with time outside AND sewing:)

Your garden looks great. You obviously love gardening and find it relaxing. I save sewing for that! My husband is the garden hobby-ist! Glad you’re getting some sunshine.
