Swiss Alpine Marathon Davos K31
I’m feeling a little shaky.
I have finally done it.
Paid my money and signed my name on the dotted line to register for my first Berglauf, that’s a mountain run for those of you who don’t live in the Alps. On July 31 , all being well, Andrea and I will attempt the 31km run from Davos to Filisur, which is held in conjunction with the Alpine Marathon. It should be spectacularly beautiful and seems to be a do-able course. Those of you who know me know that I have been promising to run a marathon for at least the last 25 years and a Berglauf for at least 5. So this is a step in the right direction – as I was beginning to get the feeling that no-one takes me seriously anymore!
Unlike the marathon and the K78 run, this race heads down the valley rather than up! The run starts at 1540m in Davos and the first 12km are fairly flat, followed by a 3km uphill stretch to the Rotschtobel at 1700m, then 15 or so kilometres downhill to Filisur. It doesn’t have the kudos of the full Alpine Marathon, but I don’t think I could finish that one alive, so this seems like a good start and I’m secure in the knowledge that I have run 30km before and lived to tell the tale. We have been advised by Bruno, who has run all of these crazy runs many times (did I mention that he is a superhero?), and who thinks that we would enjoy this one!!! Google Swiss Alpine Marathon if you want to know more. If anyone out there in cyberspace (preferably someone middle-aged and female and not superhuman) has ever run this race I would love to hear your impressions and any tips!!
Anyway before that I have the 17km stretch in the Zürich Marathon relay to deal with and as that’s only a month away I need to up my training a little, without getting injured in the process.
Of course a little bit of spring weather would help no end with training…..more snow forecast over the weekend 🙁
Have a nice day,
Helen
