It has to be scrappy….
I finally managed to sit down today to make a start on the binding of the Whirligig quilt. I had spent a couple of days pulling my stash out to try to find the perfect fabric for the binding. I have a propensity to only buy small cuts of fabric (a meter costs HOW MUCH?), so I finally had to concede defeat. There was just never enough of anything to make binding for the whole quilt. Darn it. That would have been the easiest solution.
So instead I’m following Nicole’s suggestion and am making a scrappy binding. Well, let’s be honest here….I’m scrabbling around among my scraps trying to find appropriate fabrics that I can cut into 6 1/2 x 2 1/2 inch strips. I thought it would be a breeze, but I guess I was way too efficient at using up my scraps when I made the quilt. Most of what I have now seems to fall either into the ‘not an appropriate colour’ or ‘too eentsy weentsy to do anything with’ categories. I’m getting there though and somehow I’ll pull enough scraps together to get this binding done. I’m certainly not going to buy any more fabric – this is going to be a scrap quilt through and through! (Even if it kills me!).
Happy stitching,
Helen
