Can any of you wonderful ladies out there recommend great yarn or quilting stores in Los Angeles (fairly central) or Calgary/Banff?

Thank you in advance!

Helen

    Hi Helen,
Firstly, I enjoy reading your blog. It’s always interesting to read about other quilters/knitters in other corners of the world – I am in Australia.
I have been quilting for about 14 years and enjoy seeing what others are doing.

As far as quilt shops go, I can thoroughly recommend the Sugar Pine Quilt Shop in Canmore – about 25 km from Banff heading east towards Calgary which is then approx. another 103 km. Check out their website. I visited there in the summer of 2007, on our way to friends about 2 hours east of Calgary, and bought 2 kits, and then stopped in again on our way back to buy more fabric to make a thank you quilt. They are very helpful, and even when I needed more fabric after I had returned home, it was a an easy and friendly experience, even from the other side of the world .

I suggest you google ‘quilting shops in Calgary’ (& LA) as I know there are 3 or 4 in Calgary – I did have their names at the time of our visit, but unfortunately time didn’t allow me to check them out – I ended up doing enough damage to the credit card in all the other locations anyway! (My husband was very patient and accommodating with the quilt shop stops – fabric in Australia is very expensive, $20+ for the well known brands, so I couldn’t pass up the opportunity).

Banff/Calgary is beautiful and this brings back many fond memories.

I hope you have a wonderful trip – when are you going?

    Hi Helen,
I found your blog this summer and have been thoroughly enjoying it as I, too, am a runner and quilter – though not as prolific or energetic as you!
I am lucky enough to live near the Rocky Mountains (born in Banff) so, even though we don’t visit as often as I’d like, I get to appreciate and enjoy them in all seasons. And, as you know from your mountains, each season offers something spectacular.

This site lists quilt stores in Calgary, as well as their web addresses: http://members.shaw.ca/BeverlysQuiltingPage/stores2.htm
I have been to Freckles (and it is great) but have not been to the others yet.

As a previous comment stated, the Sugar Pine company in Canmore is wonderful: http://www.thesugarpine.com/ Lovely people running it and VERY helpful.

Good luck in your race tomorrow and enjoy your trip here!
