The answer….

Tuesday, April 26th, 2011

Well I had to laugh! – what a life you all think I must lead…I loved Annabella‘s idea that I had gone to the Caribbean for Easter. Now that would be quite something! And Diane thought I’d gone to London to the Royal Wedding. No such luck there either!

Actually, only one person was in the right direction. We went east, not west, so Tracey you are my winner. You thought we’d gone to Germany, but actually we flew right on over Germany and further….

to Russia!

St Petersburg to be exact. Which sounds very exotic, but it’s only a 2 hour 45 minute flight from here.

And it was totally wonderful. Fabulous city, great tours, lots to see and way, way more impressive than I had even hoped. Our friend Mr Putin played a big role in the restoration of the city in the last few years – ensuring that a lot of money was invested to restore all the buildings to the way they were before the Bolshevik revolution in 1917 and the siege of Leningrad in the Second World War. Amazingly the population held out against the fascists for 900 days – with give or take a million inhabitants dying in the process, the majority from starvation – and saved their city. It is quite a place.

So if you ever get the chance to go there, grab it with both hands. It’s a beautiful place!

Wow – I would never have guessed. 🙂 Beautiful photos too. Back to running, quilting, knitting and writing now that you’re home?

Aw shucks – was imagining the Swiss goodie bag and hoping there would be some chocolate in there and at least a Mont Blanc pen or a cuckoo clock… I never for a moment had you in Russia…St. Petersburg looks gorgeous – love the photos especially the 2nd one. Glad you had such a great time.

I never would have thought of that location. Did you see the Amber Room in the Catherine Palace?

What a lovely place to visit. One place that’s on my list to see, also. But my list is sooo long. I think Poland is next for us next summer! Yeah! I am already getting excited about it. We are going to research my grandparents’ birth place, but first I have to find out where it was? Hmmm! I need help.

Extended woolly-wearing time, though, with ice in the water??!!

My mum always wanted to go to Russia, but never got round to it before she died at 62. So that’s made me determined not to put things off but live for the day. It looks like you had a lovely day out.
