Loose ends

Thursday, April 28th, 2011

I seem to have an awful lot of unfinished projects on the go at the moment – three half-made quilt tops, two single socks and a skirt, all of which I’ve started in the last few months. We won’t go into what is sitting in the UFO basket – the things in there are so old and have been there for so long that even I no longer know what’s in there and right now I don’t think I have the strength to go and look. I’m letting sleeping dogs lie on that front!

I would really like to get some of the newer things finished off though. I really feel in a finishing mood, so this week I’m just trying to plod along on them. Little by little they will all get done.

At the moment I’m very conscious of my word for the year – remember that? January seems such a long time ago, doesn’t it? My word is Simplify and  step by step, tying off loose ends as I go, I’m getting there. I’m still periodically clearing things out and recycling things I don’t need anymore. I’ve been fairly good about not buying too many new books, or fabric or yarn. A little bit now and then, but on the whole I’m slowly working through what I have. It’s a good feeling. Not exciting, but solid and satisfying.

Things are pretty calm around here at the moment. Ordinary days which seem to find their own balance – work, home, children, garden, sewing, knitting, reading…a little time for each of them. Nothing dramatic, but pleasant days. Being able to potter in the garden is such a delight at this time of year and I think it has a huge effect on keeping everthing else in proportion. It’s amazing how a little sunshine lifts my spirits.

Lovely. This is how it should be. Life is good.

I shall try to simplify things round here too. We do tend to overcomplicate our lives, don’t we? My motto for the moment is ‘finish what you’ve started’ – especially as regards my writing.
