Marrakech…have you seen this before?
Last weekend Di aka Quiltova and I went off on a little jaunt….and we flew off to visit Marrakech in Morocco. You may know Annabella, who lives there and who we ‘knew’ through various bees, most notably Stitch Tease. Here we are with Annabella’s first Stitch Tease quilt…..
If you ever get the chance to visit Marrakech please take it. It is a fabulous city with a 500 year old souk, ancient palaces and madrassas, hidden gardens, scents of orange blossom and other less appetizing things, spices and pointy toed slippers…and don’t forget lots of couscous and tagines. Quiltova and I had a fabulous time exploring and getting to know Annabella, her son Zaki and husband Youssef as well as her mum, who was over visiting from England. We stayed in Annabella and Youssef’s lovely little riad right in the Medina!
Here are just a few of the sights of our weekend. Only three hours from Switzerland and yet soooooo different.
Normal life has now been resumed and I’m slowly coming back down to earth.
Thanks girls for a fabulous weekend!
Helen

What fun, and it is much closer than I realized. I love those huge bags of spices, I always wonder how often they might get tipped over. I bet you had a great time.

So jealous, but glad you loved it. It’s been so many years since I went there and I didn’t have a friend who lived there to be my guide back then either.

I was wondering if you were back – it looks wonderful!! 🙂 xx

I really do want to go, and keep promising, but alas, the lack of holiday time is conspiring against me! Glad you had a fun time together anyway :o)

Oh such lovely photos Helen!! It was so lovely to meet and spend time with you and Di – I so hope you will come back again and perhaps with your family? It’s raining and cold here at the moment!

Lovely. When we were traveling the end of January, one of our options if we ended up in Spain was to go to Gilbralter and then take the ferry to Morroco. We ended up in Germany so spent a couple of days in Paris. Still shooting to make it to Switzerland to see if my husband can find some distant cousins.

I am so glad you had a lovely time and you got to meet Bella.

I am so jealous that three hours will take you somewhere so different. Three hours from DC still looks a lot like DC. Jetting off to Morocco for the weekend – wow!

Should I say lucky girls? No, clever girls! And of course you had a great time.
Great pictures!

What fun and unique opportunities you’ve had because of your quilting, Helen! I loved seeing these photos. Hugs from across the Pond… xoxo

Tokyo and Marrakech within a few months?! You are to be envied, Helen! But I am sure it was well deserved so I try to be not jealous :o) Making memories together is so much fun, I am sure you will derive strength and energy from your trip for quite some time (or so I hope!). Thanks for sharing those lovely photos! They make me want to discover foreign places myself again (when the kids are older… sigh)…
Love
