Opening Day is Finished!!

Saturday, September 25th, 2010

I’ve had a bit of a patchwork blitz over the last couple of days to get Opening Day finished. And here it is: Opening Day by Carrie L. Nelson from her wonderful book Miss Rosie’s Spice of Life Quilts. (If you don’t already have this book, put it on your Christmas list – I promise you won’t regret it!). It was made entirely with fabrics from Moda‘s Lumiere de Noel by French General range, using both the normal and the plaid fabrics.I had a fat quarter bundle of each, which was more than enough, although a lot of the plaids are heavier weight than the cottons, so I steered clear of them wherever possible.

I apologize for the rather sub-standard photo, but a monsoon seems to have hit Switzerland and for the foreseeable future there is as good as no natural light – just gloom and rain lashing against the windows! When the sun shines again – if it ever does – I will hang the top on the washing line so you can see it in its full glory! The colours are just lovely and I’m afraid I haven’t been able to do them one jot of justice here!

I now have three double bed sized tops waiting to be quilted – I definitely see a machine quiltathon looming on the horizon – but not this week; there’s way too much other stuff going on!

Have a lovely weekend – here’s hoping your weather is better than ours!!

Helen

I’m astonished how fast you put this quilt together. It turned out beautiful.
Sending you some “sun shine”! I wouldn’t mind some Autumn weather. I’m so sick of the heat here and it’s very humid at the moment! So some rainy days doesn’t sound too daunting to me ;). I hope your weekend is going well. Vreni x

Absolutely lovely. The design and the fabrics. I have a quilt started using the french general lumiere fabrics. Maybe I’ll have it finished one of these days.
