The crochet monster
This is my 15 year old daughter’s latest project. She does beautiful crochet, unlike her mother (I guess I could do it, in that I know how, but it really isn’t my thing!). I think her talent has jumped a couple of generations as my grandmother did fabulous crochet – we have some amazing tablecloths she made a zillion years ago stashed away somewhere, to prove it).
My daughter likes nothing better than a good TV programme or audible book and crochet in hand she is as happy as a clam for simply ages. (Which doesn’t really strike me as typical teenage behaviour, but I think I was very similar at her age ). She finds it very relaxing. And who am I to argue with that!
I have just donated all my odds and ends of wool to the project. A whole big basket full of little ends of projects, left-over sock wool and goodness knows what else, which were just sitting around, had been for years and for which I was never, ever going to find a use. It was very satisfying. Instantaneous stash busting – you can imagine how good that felt! And the result will be rather nice – not to mention how nice it is to have a happy teenager. I could have given her gold dust and she wouldn’t have been more thrilled!
I like the colours and the boldness. Somehow it has a hint of Kaffe Fasset and I think it will make a gorgeous teenagery bed throw.
The size of this monster blanket is as yet unspecified. It could go on forever….
As long as I keep supplying the wool. But for now there is quite a lot to be going on with!

I love the brightness! and how snuggly warm to work with in the winter.Good for your daughter to use up bits and pieces and for her perseverence in this project.
I used to make Granny Squares when I was a teen and sew them together, I really wanted to knit but being left handed was always an exta challenge in learning.

Just amazing! She (and you) should be proud. That’s a lot of determination for a 15 year old! How long did it take her to get this far? I’m impressed!

Your daughter’s afghan is beautiful. It does look very Kaffe Fassett.

The colours and pattern in your daughter’s crochet blanket remind me very much of a Missoni design. What perfect colours to snuggle under, when those gray winter days are upon us.
