Slow down and knit a little….
I’m feeling quite wiped out at the moment – I don’t know if it’s the weather or the season or just generally too little sleep and too much to do. Whatever the cause, it is how it is. It’s helped quite a lot that I’m down-scaling Christmas activities – boy, was that a weight lifted off my shoulders! Now I should be doing loads of things, but I just spent a delightful half hour listening to the news and having a little knit at the latest sock project.
I admit that I am a total sock addict. Last week I was all socked out and now my sock mojo is right back and bopping me on the nose. Funny that. Actually I have been looking at (strike that, drooling over is what I really should be saying!) this yarn since I came back from North America in late October – it came from the fabulous Wild Fiber shop in Santa Monica. Its been sitting in my wool basket, which is right by my desk, and tempting me on a daily basis. Ladies, I’m just not that strong!!
So here it is: Pagewood Farm hand-dyed Glacier Bay yarn. You can probably guess the colour.
No? You could you know, just look at it and it’ll jump right out at you?
Still no?
It’s Lavender Fields. A more perfectly named yarn does not exist. I just have to look at it and my head is full of rolling lavender fields in southern France. Delightful!
See what I mean?
Perfect!
The pattern – Retro Rib, what else?, by Evelyn A. Clark from Favourite Socks 25 Timeless designs from Interweave. My favourite pattern from my favourite book – with my current favourite yarn!
I’m off to dream of lavender fields and the sun on my face. It’s snowing outside again and minus hoojaboojah – which I really don’t want to think about!
Here’s to the benefits of day-dreaming!

That yarn is so pretty. I so want to make my first pair of socks. I tried before using a circular needle, but I didn’t like using it and didn’t finish my socks. (My mother finished them for me.) I don’t think I’ve tried using double pointed needles, but maybe I would like that better. What method do you prefer — circular needle or dp needles? Also, do you have a good beginner sock pattern?
