A winter walk around the village

Sunday, January 2nd, 2011

The weather has been so perfect this week. Yesterday I managed a walk round the village. It was a few degrees below freezing and the air caught a little in the back of my throat. Apart from the odd skier coming down from the slopes, it was quiet and peaceful. The sort of quiet you only find in the mountains. No wind, totally still, no traffic noise or dogs barking. Not even any children playing – they have all headed off to the slopes with skis, snowboards and sledges enjoying the great weather before school starts up again.

The sun is so low in the sky now that the sunshine hits the mountains but barely touches the valley.

I also ripped out the 6 inches or so I had knitted on the purple scarf. The lily of the valley pattern looked pretty, but was just horrible to knit and there was no way I could ever see myself sticking to it long enough to finish the scarf. It took immense reserves of concentration, which are a bit lacking round here at the moment, so I kept making mistakes and having a devil of a job to sort them out. Making the bobbles for the flowers was just beyond me.

I figured that knitting has to be a pleasurable activity or there is really no point. So that was an end to it. I’ve cast on again using a much simpler floral lace pattern – which isn’t as pretty, but is much nicer to knit and also has the added advantage that it looks good on both sides. We’ll see how this one goes….but so far I’m enjoying it!

Happy knitting …or quilting….or creating to all of you out there…and thanks for stopping by!

Helen

Absolutely beautiful. There is something about Swiss villages which is just magical, and I LOVE it all. I hope you are feeling slightly better. I suspect it it going to take some time, though! I am still creaking, and may get out the crocheting in a while. When the coffee is made. And when I have found the hidden chocolate…..

Hi Helen, hope the family is enjoying they skiing while you are recovering – as you were able to get out into the village I’ll presume that you are feeling a tad better. Re the scarf – obviously you are adhering to your new mantra “SIMPLIFY”. Enjoy.
