Done….or almost anyway!

Sunday, January 16th, 2011

I finally got through all the quilting on Martinique and am now just sewing down the last couple of yards of the binding. I really wanted to wait until it was completely finished before I photographed it, but the sun is starting to go down, so it was really a case of now or never as I think tomorrow it’s going to rain again and it’s so difficult taking photos in the house when it’s dark outside.

Martinique is not a blockbuster quilt, but it’s a subdued and cosy one. I think I like it more now that I’m not fighting with it and my sewing machine. In an hour or so I will happily be able to claim that my biggest UFO is sorted- What a lovely feeling! It really was too big and too thick to quilt on my sewing machine – the quilting isn’t great and it wasn’t a very happy experience. I can honestly say that it took forever and I didn’t enjoy it much – it was an absolutely sublime feeling when it was finished though!!

Thanks for your comments over the past couple of days  – the vast majority of you seem to be quilt washers, so I think I’m going to be bold and give it a go. I’d better get some colour catchers before I do though.

That’s on the list of jobs to do tomorrow. But first I  have to trundle off to the hospital for an MRI on my back – which is much better, thanks for asking, but still not right. I finally made it to the doctor this week – he thinks it may be a fracture or a compression fracture. I can’t believe it’s possible that I’ve been walking around for three weeks with a fracture in my spine, but it has been very painful, so maybe he’s right. (I do have quite a high pain threshold, but even so….). I’m actually quite intrigued to know though, but not looking forward to the MRI much – the machine is so noisy and I’m a little claustrophobic – I’m hoping they might be kind and leave my head outside.

And now I can really start thinking about new projects – with NO GUILT attached!

Wow! That feels great!

Congratulations! It looks great from what I can see. Good luck with the MRI tomorrow. My mum also had a fractured vertebra and walked around with it for weeks. Luckily she didn’t need a op but only had to wear a brace for a while. Vreni x

Your Martinique quilt is just lovely! I have a stack of those pretty fabrics in my stash closet just begging me to do something with them. The colors are so soothing. Hope your back issue gets resolved quickly and painlessly.

It may not be your favourite quilt but it sure looks lovely to me and I am sure that there will be a taker for it – if it hasn’t already been spoken for.
Good luck with the MRI tomorrow.

Helen it turned out beautifully! The colours remind me of a quilt I made about 17 years ago that quilt became the one the girls always snuggled with when they didn’t feel well. Yes it looks worse for wear but its one of my favorites.
and now really do take it easy and let the healing happen!
