Now I get it!
Martinique is bound and finished and this morning I washed and tumbled it.
And now I understand what everyone has been talking about.
Who would have thought?
My less than loved project has turned into a lived-in looking, cosy and delightful quilt. I really truly got what everyone had been talking about when I took it out of the tumble dryer and saw the transformation. Gone is the slightly stiff shine of the fabrics, gone are the rather iffy bits of quilting (not miraculously requilted by the quilting fairies in the tumble dryer, but just lost in the delightful crinkliness), and it just feels so different. It’s now crying out to be snuggled under with a good book and a cup of tea.
Which is what I’m about to do…
And I’m not feeling guilty on that front either – the MRI showed that I do have a fracture in my spine, so I’m now going to take life appropriately easy. I can’t wait until the house slaves come home from school!

Oh no, you poor thing. Make the most of the slaves while you have a good excuse ;). Get well soon. Vreni x

I do hope that the fracture heals soon – I guess the only treatment is rest and time. Take care and enjoy the enforced idleness.

Great re the quilt, but not great re the fracture. At all. Just rest and the slaves will make sure you don’t have to lift a finger. I hope! You have got something warm and snuggly to curl up with though!

I am so sorry about the fracture. I hope it heals quickly, and that the house slaves step up and do their jobs. Can you at least sit and sew or knit?

Helen, I am so sorry you are suffering with this. Yes, a brand new fresh quilt from the dryer is a lovely pleasure. The satisfaction of a job well done. Your quilt is absolutely beautiful.
