Nature’s Notebook
I love this fabric range. It’s fresh and crisp, but there’s also something of the 1970’s – with little Laura Ashley-like sprigs. A little nostalgic. Which I find rather comforting and safe. Some of the blues are leaning dangerously near French toile de jouy and there are some borderline chintzes in there too.
What I really love though are the colours. I have long had a thing about blue and yellow. It always reminds me of Sweden in the summer, of clear skies and water and beautiful tall blonds, of charming white Ikea furniture and evenings that last forever. Nature’s Notebook is made up of very nice blues and yellows, with just the odd hint of green thrown in to break things up a little.
It isn’t a sophisticated fabric range. Not one bit. It’s a straightforward and uncomplicated (a bit like me really!). And I think I’m going to enjoy working with it.
Now I’m looking at small quilt patterns. I think a single bed size would work – it seems a shame to make anything much smaller as I’d end up with a lot of this lovely fabric left over. So I’m musing my way through a zillion quilt books, looking for something to catch my eye. I’m sure I’ll know it when I find it. So far everything that I’ve loved has included…you’ve guessed it…stars or flying geese. And I’m really trying to break out of that rut.
It’s good I’ve got something nice to do. Not being able to get out and exercise is starting to drive me slightly bonkers. I would almost give my right arm for a run in the woods. Not quite, but almost… Anyway, tomorrow I’m back at the doctor’s surgery – and I shall be begging him to let me at least go swimming (which I hate, but which would still be better than doing nothing).
Anyway, enough burbling. It’s time to brave the snowstorm and head out to the school for my piano lesson.
Have a great morning!
Helen

Good morning Helen, or rather Good afternoon your time. Those are lovely fabrics and like you I’ve always loved the blue and yellow combination which, for some reason, my husband intensely dislikes – no accounting for tastes. I’ll be braving the snow today as well to go out for Dim Sum with some quilting and non-quilting friends.
