Pinwheel

I’m still pottering…

I think I’m leaning towards Pinwheel by Kim Brackett from  Scrap-Basket Surprises. I rather like pinwheels and it’s been a long while since I’ve made any. This pattern has really big pinwheels, which makes it a bit more complex (and I’ve already managed to make several pieces backwards!). .

I’ve also been through my fabric cupboard and pulled out everything I can find that would combine with the Nature’s Notebook jelly roll, because I won’t have enough fabric from the jelly roll alone. I can’t tell you how much I love using up fabric that’s been in the stash for a gazillion years.

My only worry now is that quite a lot of the jell roll strips fall into the category of ‘middle of the spectrum’ and I’m not sure whether I’m going to get enough definition from them. As you can see, one of the longer blue points of the trial pinwheel doesn’t really stand out sharply. I don’t know yet whether this is going to be a problem, or whether I should just trust that everything will turn out fine and go with the flow.

I’m still at the playing around stage really…

Beautiful work! How big is this going to be?

For me, I think I would like more contrast. I wish I had more of the dark blue I could send you–I think that is what you need. I had the same issue when I worked with this fabric collection. You have all those “neither here nor there” tones. I just think if you are going to all the trouble to piece those pinwheel blocks, it ought to show up.
