Opening Day – Possibly my Favourite Quilt Ever!

Tuesday, March 8th, 2011

Yesterday I received Opening Day back from Chris the quilter at the Quilt Room. She did a great job. I’m thrilled with what she did. I’ve just this minute finished sewing on the binding and its finished. And I love it! Boy, do I love it!

So in all her glory here is Opening Day (the pattern is by the inestimable Carrie Nelson and the fabric is Moda’s Lumiere de Noel by French General)….

Tadaaaaaa…..(that was a trumpet roll incase you didn’t notice!)

So there you are. I’m over the moon. Can you tell? This quilt has my very favourite stars and flying geese and the fabric is fabulous and a completely new colour direction for me. I know it’s rather an overload on the photos front, but apart from being besotted with this quilt, for the first time in months I’ve been able to take photos outdoors (I even scrubbed the balcony rail specially!). And of course, I want you to enjoy it as much as I do!!

As you can see, Bumble Bee likes it too and has ventured outside for the first time in months. She’s an old lady and she doesn’t like the cold. Actually she had a pretty rough winter and has been a decidedly unhappy cat and has even been pulling out her fur. Finally last week I let the vet talk me into agreeing to pull out the last of her back teeth. Her mouth was in a terrible state – no wonder she was miserable. I hummed and hawed for ages – I mean it’s a bit drastic, isn’t it? – and I really didn’t know if she would be able to eat afterwards. Wouldn’t you know – the vet was right. It’s given the old girl a new lease of life. She’s eating with a gusto I haven’t seen in years – and is back to being a happy cat. Who would have guessed?

Don’t forget to check out yesterday’s post and the GIVEAWAY – leave me a comment to enter if you haven’t yet.

Here’s hoping a little spring is heading your way (except for those down under who are probably enjoying the end of summer!)

Helen

Let me be the first to congratulate you on such a lovely quilt, it really did turn out well – I just checked and I have that pattern – so – one of these days…..
Bumble Bees does look content, as only a cat can – so glad she is feeling better and so do I – the sun is shining and the snow is sparkling – and I have a quilt club meeting this morning.

The quilt is breathtaking – and the quilting stitches are so amazing. I can understand why you’re so happy with it! We are seeing more of this color in the States – the salmon, the coral, the pinky-orangey-faded red whatever you call it. It’s in every decorating book and many clothes catalogs. I love it.

We also had some teeth pulled from our Schnauzer Winnie years ago, and at the time it seemed so sad. It made a huge difference in her life, though, and she perked right up. Have a good week Helen!

Beautiful quilt! Definitely worthy of a balcony railing scrub! Glad you had a nice sunny day. We are experiencing an early spring here in South Carolina. Pears, cherries, camellias & forsythia are in bloom and it is lovely.

Wonderful quilt! I can see why you’re over the moon. You did Bumble Bee a big favor by having her teeth removed. I had a Maine Coon who gradually lost all of her teeth except for the front. I was worried at the time because I couldn’t imagine her eating her dry food. No problems and she lived to 17. Dental health is as important to animals as it is to people.

I absolutely love, love, love your quilt. Great job to you and your quilter!

I love it! I would never have guessed that Lumiere would be so beautiful with this pattern but this is beautiful. You are a genius for seeing how perfect they would be for each other.

Bumble Bee is a beauty too. And she’s a smart girl for not wanting to venture outside in the cold!

Spring is finally here in Arizona. Even though it was quite windy yesterday, it is still warm and sunny. This is our reward for putting up with the summer heat. šŸ™‚

Yes indeed, that quilt is stunning! You did a marvelous piecing job and your quilter finished things up perfectly. I have also made Opening Day, and think the pattern is so terrific I need to make another one!

The quilt and the sunshine are beautiful. I’m always amazed at how the quilting really brings out the colors and pattern. Bravo!

I love this pattern too, all the stars and flying geese!! 2 of my favorite things to piece. My Opening Day is all ready to be quilted.
I can hardly wait to have that warmer weather here, we have received about a 10″ of snow in the last couple of days……spring will come šŸ™‚
