A day of small pleasures
Sometimes I think we get the most happiness from the simple pleasures that touch our everyday lives. The little things.
These made me happy today….
a good cup of coffee and a freshly baked hot cross bun for breakfast
(I posted the recipe last year – it’s in the cooking section if you want it!)

a little illicit cookbook purchase. (I’m on a lifetime ban, but sometimes some things just sneak through!)
finishing turning the heel on my toe-up socks after a lot of pondering and unravelling and proving that you can teach an old dog new tricks.
the first daffodils bursting into bloom in the garden
playing some beautiful music (quite badly) just because it made me happy
What’s brightening your day today?
Helen

Great cookbook choices – I love Raymond Blanc’s series on BBC at the moment. He makes it all look so simple – although I’m sure it’s not (I am a terrible cook!). And I love the way he says “Voila!” all the time.
My day is being brightened by the first bit of quilting I have done since my 2nd daughter was born (nearly 8 weeks ago) – a wonderful friend is holding the baby this morning to let me have a little bit of sewing time – she said she thought it was the best gift she could give, and she’s not wrong!
Love your blog, have been reading it for ages (since Nicole added it as a link)

Fun post, Helen. It’s 6:30 a.m. as I write this, so day brighteners aren’t abundant yet. But I can hear beautiful birdsong outside my window this morning, the furnace is working and is warming up the house, I have no pressing appointments on my calendar, and I’m almost finished with a simple scarf I’m knitting for a friend. 🙂

My mother and I have a cook book habit – she`s slightly worse than me. Would love to know what you think of `Easy` as it`s been on my list for a while. What`s brightened my day? Going out to the countryside in the hot sunshine and not having to cook lunch! Totally agree that it`s the simple things in life…hope you`ve had a good day.

Oh my goodness, I`ve just had a look at your hot cross bun recipe and I think I`m going to try these tomorrow. Yum!

What a lovely day. I’d forgotten all about hot cross buns. I shall have to make some this weekend.
Going out and talking to my animals brightens my day. The llamas and alpacas alwasy come thundering up when they see me. OK, they’re just after food but it’s nice!

Hello Helen, I came over to visit from Stephanie’s Books Are Cool site. I smiled when I saw “Run, Quilt, Knit, Write” and thought it could be me if you replaced “quilt” with “play piano.” And then I had to chuckle when I saw your piano photo. Small pleasures are truly the best.

Hot cross buns!!! So jealous. Today we went to the garden centre and I now have a lovely herb box on my garden table and two gorgeous pots for the balcony full of lilac, Rosemary and little violas…made me very happy indeed.

I really am sleep deprived…I meant lavender not lilac…lilac would be way too big for a pot on a balcony.
