Scrumptious Stupid Sock
There hasn’t been much sewing going on around here recently. Life has been getting in the way and yesterday I even had to dust the top of my sewing machine. That’s not a good sign.
One of the main reasons is that I’ve been doing battle with this sock. (Appunto by Marjan Hammink for Three Irish Girls)
It nearly got the better of me. Maybe the pattern was just a tad too tricky for my first try at a toe-up sock. Trying to count and do cables while everything was kind of upside down and both the toe and the heel were done in ways I’d never seen before meant my little grey cells were challenged in ways they haven’t been in years and it was anything but a little gentle sock knitting. It required ferocious concentration and at times a lot of staying power. I redid the heel several times and I’m still not completely convinced that it ended up being the way the designer intended. It almost got thrown in the corner several times and the odd bad word did creep out. For a good while I thought it was a really stupid sock and I didn’t like it at all….
And then I finished it up and put it on and wow! I love it.
The yarn (Three Irish Girls Springvale superwash marino in Freya – the February sock club) is just lovely. Really lovely to knit with. Really lovely. And doesn’t look at all battered after it’s been pulled out a couple of times. The colour is one that I don’t think I would ever have bought if it hadn’t come with the sock club, but I love it!
And now that it’s done, all those cables just look cool…and like they were tricky to do….which feels pretty good. If I’m honest!
What is it they say? If it doesn’t kill you it makes you stronger?

Oh my goodness, I LOVE these socks! Beautiful colour and the cabling is to die for. Well worth the effort – I would say that wouldn`t I as I didn`t have to suffer making them!?

You did a marvelous job, Helen! Beautiful. In about two years I might be able to knit that well. :p

Very pretty sock. I haven’t tried a top-up pattern yet.

I’m full of admiration. What a lovely piece of knitting.

Lovely – well done! (said as my own first toe-up sock languishes at the first heel increases, it’s making me feel uncomfortable somehow… :o)
Having said that, I completely agree that having mastered a new skill is a great feeling, makes all the hassle worthwhile ;))

They are lovely, very clever of you! And them your next post is about how you don’t get anything done…just not true! (Sorry way too many exclamation marks I’m sleep deprived).
