Urban regeneration

Thursday, April 7th, 2011

Today I took a summer stroll in Zürich around the Viadukt – one of the best examples of urban regeneration I know. In a rather grotty industrial area a Zürich architect created a wonderful eating and shopping space from the old stone arches under a railway viaduct. It’s a new project and I imagine it will take a little time to get well known and start to really take off, but right now it’s small and friendly, there are some really funky clothes shops and a fabulous food hall full of artisan shops …..including joy of joys… a British cheese shop, which sells the very best cheddar I have ever eaten anywhere.

A delightful lazy spring morning.

Note to self: should do things like this more often!

Hmmm, cheese in Switzerland. Isn’t that like coal to Newcastle?

Yes! Absolutely you should do things like this more often! And so should I!

What a lovely time you had and thank you for sharing it.

I managed to miss this post. What a beautiful city. And look at all that cheese! There used to be a market stall at Boussac that sold British cheeses but I haven’t seen it for a long time. Shame, because we got some gorgeous cheshire with cranberries in it one Christmas – it was delicious. And our Caiti really misses cheddar despite there being a million different French cheeses to choose from here!
