A spring morning
Today is bright and cool and spring is well established. The few days of summer heat we’ve had over the last few weeks seem to have sent nature into overdrive. Tulips are opening at a rate of knots and before you can blink an eye, they’re over.
I rather like tulips. Where I grew up in North-East England tulips don’t fare well and for that reason a lot of people don’t bother with them. It’s way too windy – there are constant strong wings off the sea – and tulips usually get buffeted out of existence before they can put on any sort of show.
Last year I had a wonderful display of tulips in the garden, but I didn’t plant any new bulbs last autumn and it looks like the mice have had a heyday over the winter and have decimated the tulip bulbs among other things. All I have to show this spring is the odd, rather sad survivor.
Note to self: must make more of an effort with autumn planting next year!

Oh how I love tulips, too. The best place on earth to see them in all their glory is the Keukenhof Gardens outside of AMsterdam…amazing display!

Tulips do well here too. They were always a disaster in Ireland. They’d get pounded by gales and rain as soon as they appeared and were sad and soggy. So sad!
