Irises at Merian Park
Yesterday Mel and I took the train to Basel (or Basle) right on the French/German borders and went to see the irises (and other delightful things!) at Merian Park in Brüglingen. This incredible botanical garden is somehow squished in between an industrial area of Basel and the big St. Jakob football stadium. Inside we felt a million miles away from the rest of the world.
I think the photos speak for themselves. It was sooo beautiful. It was one of those days that make your spirits sing. It also inspired me to try much harder with my own irises!
The company was pretty good, too! Thanks Mel for the splendiferous idea!

Now this is spooky! Guess where I was yesterday? Yes, at the exact same place as you. First our path nearly crosses in Riehen and now this. Third time lucky, I warrant ;). Or maybe we should arrange a “rendez vous” next time I’m here. What do you think?

Gorgeous. How nice it would be to live in Europe and be able to hop on a train and visit these beautiful places. WIsh we had trains here in the U.S.

so pretty. I have a few irises in my garden, but the blooms don’t last very long. They sure are pretty, tho, aren’t they? I’d love to see them all in a field like you did.

How lovely. Have you ever been to Monet’s garden at Giverny? I really recommend it for the irises at this time of year. Your post brought back very happy memories of my 30th birthday surprise holiday in Paris. I’m going to be 50 in a few weeks. How did that happen? Penny L xx

These are so beautiful. My irises didn’t bloom well this year. Don’t know why, but I had very few blooms.

I love irises, but haven’t had any luck with the ones I’ve planted here. The first lot got lawnmowed by my son on the ride-on and the others never flourished. However, we do get a lovely show of yellow flag lilies around our lakes every year. They were short lived this time round because of the hot dry weather, but they’re so cheerful and bright!
