Unpicking

Thursday, May 12th, 2011

Thank you for all your comments on the direction that my Meadowsweet blocks were taken. As luck would have it, the opinions were pretty much split between the two versions, but thinking about it for a couple of days made me realize that deep down, and even though it kind of goes against my nature, I really like the crazy blocks the best.

So my quick unpick and I have been in action. I don’t know what I’d do without my trusty quick unpick – such a simple little gadget, but well…world changing…pretty much… I hope whoever invented it ended up very rich. She deserved it. (It had to have been a woman, don’t you think?).

So I’m remaking the squares without any solids. As everything is already cut to size and even has stitching lines to follow, I’m making good progress. Who knows, maybe I’ll use all the solids to make something similar when I’m done.

I’m really enjoying liking this project even more with every block I make. Now I’m starting to see the sense of the fabric combinations and the individual crazies seem to stand out less.

Sorry about the rather dark photos by the way. It has finally started raining. My rain dance in the garden yesterday did the trick in the end. I’m not going to complain – we were desperate and they were about to ban watering the garden – which would have been a bit of a disaster – so I can put up with a dismal rainy day. Hopefully the photos will be back to normal light levels tomorrow!

Have a great day!

Helen

it’s going to be wonderful. Do you use a special tool for unpicking? or just a seam ripper? Please share your secret.

They are wonderful! I especially like the green with pink plaid block. Until your post I didn’t realize the those little tools were called quick unpicks, so neat.

These are lovely! I liked both the ones with 2 prints and the ones with 1 print / 1 solid but thought they didn’t mix & match well, so separated out they look great. Lovely summery colours. Happy sewing!

It’s awful undoing your own sewing or knitting – all that time that went into it! But when it’s the right thing to do, it’s well worth it and you’re always so much happier with the end result.
